The American Restaurant opened in 1974 and quickly became a jewel of Crown Center, a mixed-used urban development project created by Hallmark to fill the decaying area surrounding its headquarters.
Since the restaurant first opened in 1974, its continuing evolution has enjoyed some of the restaurant industry’s most brilliant talents, including designers Warren Platner and Milton Glaser, restaurant consultants James Beard, Joseph Baum and Barbara Kafka and Chef Bradley Ogden, whose first exposure to culinary fame was here.
It’s been called a “truly grand restaurant” and “a work of art in its own right,” a restaurant “on the forefront of the American cuisine revolution” where “true culinary artistry is a constant.” In 2018 The American was honored to be only the third recipient of the Design Icon Award given by the James Beard Foundation.
Today The American continues the tradition through exceptional private dining experiences and guest chefs and other unique dining experiences that make up The American Concept Series.
